Busy Weekend

It started Saturday morning at 6:00 am.  I was on kitchen staff at church making breakfast burritos for the woman’s conference the way we make them at the men’s monthly breakfasts.  Hey, women need burritos, too.  Luckily, I’m ¼ Mexican, so I know how to wrap a burrito.

After getting new tires for Kris’ car, I was in a Zoom meeting with the staff of next weekend’s Greater Los Angeles Writes Conference.  We went over the final plans and the changes to the newly renovated Hilton Hotel, formerly the Double Tree Hotel.  http://www.wcwriters.com/aglawc/

Then today, Sunday, Kris and I had another Zoom meeting with the Loscon Con Committee.  https://loscon.org/48/  Kris is doing their website, and together we run the blood drive.  For us, the blood drive has become pretty simple:  give us a room, tables and chairs and I’ll arrange everything else with the American Red Cross.  At this point, it’s all pretty preliminary.  But the one thing we did mention is that we are dedicating this year’s blood drive to long-time Loscon Committee member, Karl Lembke.  As I wrote last week, he made 997 platelet donations and was an inspiration to many – including myself.

That covered all three areas in which I volunteer.

Now it’s time to fold laundry and make dinner.

First Steampunk novel:  72,191 words.

First Steampunk screenplay:  Need to update with notes from the novelization.

Second Steampunk screenplay:  165 pages.  <– My critique group gave me feedback on the first half.  Making some notes for potential changes, but waiting for them to read the second half before I really start.

Second Steampunk novel: 0 words.

Third Steampunk screenplay:  38 pages.

Did try THREE new recipes today.  Started breakfast with Silver Dollar Pancakes   https://www.cookist.com/silver-dollar-pancakes/ Sorry, no pictures.  We ate them up too fast.

“Really good pancakes.  Similar to Aunt Jemima, but a little more flavorful.  I think it’s the vanilla.  If you run out of pancake mix, don’t worry.  You can make these with what you got in your cupboard.  The recipe says ‘Silver Dollar’, but there is no reason you couldn’t make regular size pancakes.”  — Vincent Reinheart.

“A simple, sweet bread.  Slightly crumbly, reminiscent of a biscuit.  Paired well with the Philly Cheesesteak pasta Chef Dennis made for dinner.  An older recipe, but a welcome return.  Sort of like a Hamburger Helper, but Philly Cheesesteak flavor.
