What Did She do?

What Did She do?

What she did was have a hiatal hernia that needed repair.  That’s a hernia (reminds me of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8Ow1nlafOg ) in her diaphragm.  Her stomach and pancreas were already pushing their way up into her left lung area.  The danger was if part of her intestine got caught up in there and got strangled, so it was time to fix it.

The procedure took longer than expected.  We were told ninety minutes to an hour; it ended up taking four hours.  A nurse did come out and tell me how she was doing a couple of times.  Always good, just taking longer than expected.  Today, one of the surgical nurses said that, “she was a challenge.”  But they did get it fixed and she’s coming home tomorrow.

It was done orthotopically, which means no big incision.  But it does look like she got stabbed with a lightsaber six times.  Or if you’re following One Piece on Netflix, it looks like she had a run-in with Captain Kuro of the Black Cat Pirates.  The surgeon used glue to seal up the holes, which actually is the original use for Krazy Glue.

I’m taking next week off from work to take care of her.  For the next two weeks, she will be on a liquid diet.  Or a blender diet, if it’s not already liquid, it has to go through a blender.  So, there are going to be a lot of shakes, smoothies, Ensure, cream of something soups, Jello and Puddings in her future.  This means I can’t cook for her.  Unless I can find new recipes for shakes – she already has a ton of recipes for smoothies.

“I never was much for smoothies.  They’re like a disappointing milkshake.” – Vincent Reinhart.

She did put her Etsy store on vacation because she doesn’t think she will be able to fulfill orders for a while.  But do come back and visit later, because, you know, hospital bills.

So, what did Kris do?  Well, she is at UCLA Olive View Hospital, which is a county hospital.  County jail, county hospital, and the Juvenal Hall is just down the street.  It was either a mix-up or they share linen.

Either that or it has something to do with the hundreds of thousands of dollars I keep finding under her side of the bed and that Bently that’s been taking up her parking space.
