I’m Out for Blood
Kris and I have been doing the Loscon blood drive for 32 years, but it’s been a long time since we were able to do another con like Worldcon or Westercon. This year, Westercon will be in Anaheim and we have the opportunity to do their blood drive.
We had our first Con Committee meeting Saturday on Zoom where we got the first details of the hotel. It will be held at the Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort. https://www.bookonline.com/hotel/clarion-hotel-anaheim-resort?msclkid=3ec31086e1521ca7be3373458b9ef7e3#room-types
Going through the pictures on the website, it looked familiar. I had a suspicion, then I confirmed it with some pictures from 2019. Look between the conditioner and body lotion.
We stayed at the Clarion during the last Equestria LA My Little Pony convention. It wasn’t the convention hotel. We were too late to book a room there. It was a near by hotel we could get a room. But back to the point. We were shown a map of the panel room layout.
We were told we could have Orangewood 3 for the blood drive on Saturday, July 1st. It’s 1,392 square feet, which is only slightly smaller than Marquis 1 at the Marriott Airport Hilton for Loscon (1,482 square feet). It, and all the other rooms, are on ground level, so move in and out will be easy. We were given a budget and pretty much free reign on what we want to do.
Next, I will reach out to my contact at the American Red Cross, who handles the LAX area. She can put me in contact with an ARC representative who handles the Anaheim area. Then we can start planning.

“Good but a bit plain. This is a work-in-progress. Perhaps exchange the Colby Jack for sharp Cheddar, more spices and add onions. It needs to be kicked up a notch.” – Vincent Reinhart
And for dinner, Ground Beef and Vegetable Soup, https://www.foodtalkdaily.com/recipes/soups–stew-chili/beef-soup/ground-beef-vegetable-soup-recipe-44509730 and Old Fashioned Cloverleaf Rolls https://www.restlesschipotle.com/old-fashioned-cloverleaf-rolls/?fbclid=IwAR3trS-cTyLNHPwiEcqN26h1xlmDIr7voHHGrZYSZ12s9tMt7srHpj8ZfxI
“The soup was excellent and easy to make. Perhaps it was the bay leaves that gave it a special zing! And the rolls reminded me of the rolls at Hollander Cafeteria in the Stonewood Shopping Center back when I was a pupa. Perfect meal for a rainy night.
