As I’ve been writing, I’ve been attending the California Creative Writing Conference for the past two weekends, February 26th to March 6th. Yesterday I attended Debra Eckerling’s panel, “If you are an Author, Why Aren’t You Blogging?”
I’ve been blogging consistently for almost a year. This is my 51st blog! But, I still have a lot to learn. I want to be better at this just as I want to be better at writing novels and screenplays.
Debra covered many topics in her panel such as:
- What stops an author from blogging?
- Why does an author need a blog?
- Determine your mission
- Explore your options
- Brainstorm your options
- Blog decisions
- What you should NOT put in a blog
- Map out your goals
- Set yourself up for success
Halfway through, she stopped to show some examples of blogs. One was for her own blog, the D.E.B. Method (notice bullet points three, four and five?). She also has a book on blogging called, Write on Blogging. Go to http://thedebmethod.com/my-books/ and scroll down a bit.
But what surprised me was that one of the other blogs she showed was MINE! This one! Right here! She mentioned how meta it was that she was showing my blog about being at the conference, at the conference. So now I’m blogging about her showing my blog about being at the conference, at her panel about blogging at the conference. How meta is that?!?
I think I’ll quit now before I blow a brain cell.

The next conference will be the Greater Los Writer’s Conference to be held August 6th though 14th. At this point it will probably be another virtual conference. That might change depending on when California opens up again. Details as they come out.
