U.S.S. Angeles Meeting

U.S.S. Angeles Meeting

This weekend was the monthly meeting of the Start Trek Fan Club, the U.S.S. Angeles  https://ussangeles.org/

We met at the home of one of our newest members, Cheryl.  She has a lovely home in the San Fernando Vally with a large, open dinning room/living room.  I haven’t seen too many houses in the valley with this kind of architecture, but I fell in love with this kind of open living area when I saw it in the Inland Empire.  We all ordered Chinese and I brough dessert.

Afterwards, we sat for a while in her beautiful patio.

But this was a Star Trek viewing party, so we sat down after eating to watch excerpts from the newly-released Roddenberry Vault.  https://www.startrek.com/news/rod-roddenberry-opens-the-roddenberry-vault   This had the remastered versions of some of the original Star Trek episodes.  We watched it with the enhanced visual effects which have been aired.  But what was new were deleted scenes from the original series.  These are scenes and shots filmed during production that never made it into the episodes.  They were recently found on the Paramount lot and I’m surprised they have survived over 50 years.

Aside from the deleted scenes, I was surprised how clear the remastered version looks on a giant screen TV.  For a show that’s over 50 years old, it holds up pretty well.  We watched the episode, “Space Seed”, which was the inspiration for the movie, “Star Trek II:  The Wrath of Khan”.

Kris and I then left before they started showing, “The Wrath of Khan”, because, well, it’s a school night.  There are a lot of other outings planned for the U.S.S. Angeles, including going out to see, “The Fantastic Four”, a trip to the Hollywood Bowl and a pool party at our apartment complex.  You can check it all out at the link above.  If you’re a Star Trek fan, it’s great to find others with the same interests.
