CBC Men’s BBQ

Every June, the CBC Men’s breakfast turns into the Men’s Barbecue ‘cause we’re men and we like MEAT!
It all starts in the CBC kitchen at 8:00 am. Which I have to say I appreciate the break from starting in the kitchen at 6:00 am, even though I missed the last two breakfasts because I was out of town.
Chef Rocko leads the kitchen staff. Here he is starting the potato salad.
They then added celery and onions.
With BACON! I cooked the BACON!
But the stars of the lunch were the grilled chicken.
We had four trays of these ribs, enough to feed the 60 men we were expecting. Some of them were hard to cut because the meat was falling off the bone.
Then, at 11:30, we headed out to one of our elder’s home where the BBQ was being held. People had been there since 10:00 am for fellowship and playing games. Rocko and I got there at noon to serve up lunch.
Our pastor, Jay Underwood, was the first in line. Apparently, his team won some game they had while we were cooking. That’s okay with me; my fun was playing in our restaurant-grade kitchen.
This was my end result of said cooking. There was also coleslaw, but I’m not a big coleslaw person.
After lunch, we had our teaching, which always starts with music.
Our guest speaker was Rocky Setto. He was on the USC football coaching staff for eleven years, then moved onto the Seattle Sea Hawks coaching staff for 7 years. It was there that he got the calling to enter preaching. He spoke on making decisions. That is, making Godly decision for the big choices in life like who to marry, career paths, and in his case, leaving football for the ministry.
In short, he brought up seven things to consider:
1) PROPHETIC WORD: What does the Bible say about your choice.
2) PRIORITIES: Seek the advice of older believers, they have a longer perspective.
3) PREDETERMINING GIFTS: Do you have the gifts needed in that area.
4) POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS: Can the people around you see you doing what you are considering.
5) PRUDENT COUNSEL: Seek the advice of those in the field, you parents, elders, pastors.
6) PROVIDENCE: That is working out God’s plan for you.
7) PRAYER: Pray about it.
Next month, back to Men’s breakfast – and back to getting up at 4:00 am on a Saturday.
