Getting Ready

Getting Ready

This weekend was a busy one getting ready for the Loscon 50 https://loscon.org/ blood drive.  I already had the ad copy, now I just needed the artwork.  My artist from last year was unable to help me this time, so I took a stab at it.  Mind you, I’m a writer, not an artist.

After searching through clip art and google images, I found something I could work with.  I modified the artwork by altering his clothes a bit, replacing the gold nugget he was holding for a bag of blood and putting a crisscrossed band aid on his left arm.  I kept the details simple, keeping in mind that this would be shrunk down to button size.  The next step will be to scan it into the computer and color it.  I’ll need help from my IT Department (Kris) to do that.

I also checked my supplies and put my balloons together for our balloon fish. The balloon fish have been a tradition at Loscon blood drives for probably two decades. They are usually multicolored, but since the blood drive theme is a gold rush, they are all going to be goldfish with varying-colored fins and eyes.

Next week, I’ll keep you posted as to our progress.

Okay…so I know Pepsi likes to try out new Mountain Dew flavors.  Some are very good like Code Red and Baja Blast.  Others, eh, they’re okay.  But this is a new twist…

HARD Mountain Dew?  Hard, like hard cider and hard lemon aid.  It’s got 5% alcohol.  It’s like drinking a beer.  I like to try all the new Mountain Dew flavors they come out with – and I’m still looking for their orange flavored, that was the best orange soda I ever had.  I wish them luck, but being a non-drinker, this is one Dew I will not be doing.
