Loscon 52 Update

Loscon 52 Update

Wow, there have been many times when I don’t know what I’m going to write about until the last minute.  This time I have the Loscon Committee Meeting, a trip to the Ventura County’s Oktoberfest, Steampunk at the Strathern in Simi Valley, a trip to Irv’s Burgers (maybe), and Kris might guest blog about the Craft Circle and Swap Society Swap and Show at the LASFS Clubhouse.  And that will almost take us to Loscon, which will be worth two or three blogs on its own.

So, a week ago, Kris and I attended the Loscon 52 Committee meeting.  We do the blood drive and Kris does their website.  The biggest news for us is that due to new American Red Cross regulations, the blood drive will be starting one hour earlier this year, at 9:00 am.  The Committed has agreed and so has the hotel.  There are always some fans showing up before the Red Cross is ready to open for business, so I don’t think this will be a problem.  We are going to promote this as an opportunity to donate blood without having to miss any of the con that opens at 10:00 am.

Other exciting new is that there will be an Artemas Bridge Simulator at the Con.  Eight-people teams will have a chance to simulate a trip to the moon.  Each person will take a position like captain, engineer, science and others.  I definitely want to try this.

And I’m personally excited about the Writer Guest of Honor, Bill Wolkoff, who has worked on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Wars Rebels.

It’s going to be exciting – and a lot of work getting ready for it.

PUMPKIN ALL THE THINGS!!! – Kristine C. Cherry

“Yes, I suppose it is that season again.  And to start it off, Dennis made Moist Pumpkin Scones.  This was from a Taste of Home recipe collection that is currently out in stores, but it is also on their website.  https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/moist-pumpkin-scones/

These were moist and the glaze gave them an extra sweetness.  Perfect for an autumn breakfast.  I will, however, argue the instruction, “place on an ungreased backing sheet.” Dennis halved this recipe and it will be worth making again.” – Vincent Reinhart
