Gallifrey One for Realzies This Time

Gallifrey One for Realzies This Time

Gallifrey One In 35 millimetre started on the Friday of President’s Day Weekend.  The first thing we did was to set up Kris in the Art Show.  She had a total of 11 beaded pieces…

Including her “All Hail the Carpet!” Bracelet.

Then we checked out the Dealer’s Room, which aside from being way too dangerous for our bank account, is the place we get our Girl Scout cookies each year.

Our favorite Doctor from the original series is Sylvester McCoy.  He’s like everyone’s favorite uncle.

We saw him in the main program room, which seats 2,000 to 2,500 people.  He is one of the most entertaining Doctors to see in person.  He comes from a vaudeville background and is always a delight to see in person.  When it was time for Q & A, he took his mic and went right into the audience.  He spoke of his time in vaudeville (like when he put ferrets down him pants), on Doctor Who, Rob Zombie’s “The Munsters”, and “The Hobbit”.

Later we saw Katy Manning.  If Sylvester McCoy is everyone’s favorite uncle, Katy is everyone’s favorite hippy grandmother.

In the original series she played Joe Grant, companion to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor.  She later reprised the role in “The Sarah Jane Adventures” in, “The Death of the Doctor” two-parter.  She also plays renegade Time Lord, Iris Wildthyme in Big Finish audio’s productions.

There was also a live commentary of the episode, “Boom” with writer/ executive producer Steve Moffatt and director Julie Anne Robinson.

The last big event of the day was seeing Catherine Tate, who played companion Donna Noble with David Tennant’s 10th Doctor and again in the three 60th anniversary specials.  Like McCoy, she went into the audience and took questions.

By the way, it’s almost impossible to get a seat up front in the main room, but we sat right in front of one of the big screens for all the events.  Bests seats in the house – and it was a packed house.

Did I mention that this was going to be a two-parter?  This is a two-parter.  Part two next week.

Yesterday I went to the American Red Cross in Woodland Hills, donated and completed GALLON 15!

A lot has changed since that last time I was there (September?).  First, they no longer stick your finger to draw blood to check your iron levels.  They have this device that goes around your thumb that reads your iron.  This is great because I would squirm more with this finger prick than with the needle going in my arm – more nerve endings in your finger.

Next, they take your temperature by scanning your forehead, no more thermometers.  And the blood pressure cuff is automated as well.  No more stethoscopes.  Not that the last two bothered me.  It’s just nice to see new technology.

On to gallon 16.
