My Award-Winning Wife
In addition to running the Loscon Blood Drive, Kris and I have also have run the Ice Cream Social for the past few years. But with the change of hotels, came changes to the Ice Cream Social. The Marriott would bring in five-gallon tubs of ice cream and we would provide all the toppings and cover all the floors with plastic, but the Hilton will only let us have ice cream bars. So, our job now is like being the Queen of England – we have a title, but we don’t really do anything.
So, not having to worry about being on time for the Ice Cream Social, Kris and I and some friends went out to dinner. Halfway through dinner, Kris gets a frantic call from a friend saying she’s having a mental health crisis. She left right away and I boxed up everything left, paid the bill and followed.
Well… that sneaky little friend (pictured on the left in the feature picture) was lying. They needed Kris at the social to present her with the Evans-Freehafer Award for service to the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society.
She was presented with the award for her work on the Loscon https://loscon.org/ and LASFS https://lasfs.or/ websites.
Check out both websites, and if you need a website, you can find Kris at https://civicsitedesign.com/
She’s also my in-house IT Department.
