15 Gallons!

15 Gallons!

I try to give blood ever eight weeks, but my May 3rd donation was special.  It completed my 15th gallon donated.  About a week later, I received my 15-gallon pin.

I had most of my gallon pins in my desk, and the first two I was missing Kris found in storage, along with some other pins in our collection.  So, to celebrate, Kris got a shadow box for all my gallon pins.  I also have a pin from an appreciation breakfast held at the hard Rock Café in Hollywood for hosting blood driver, and two Red Cross pins I picked up along the way.

I never had a way to display them before.  Now they hang above my printer.

There is no upper age limit for donating.  As long as you’re healthy, you can donate.  My lifetime goal is 25 gallons.  I’ll be in my eighties, but it can be done.

No Bake Kit Kat Cheese Cake

“This was… an interesting experiment.  The end results were good, but I think the recipe needs a lot of tweaking.  The Kit Kats around the form were great (it took 40, not 38).  Twenty-two graham crackers were way too much, Dennis used a quarter of that.  The chocolate ganache on top could use twice the chocolate chips.  But the real problem was the no-bake cheese cake part itself.

I think the problem was the amount of heavy whipping cream.  No matter how much you whip it, add the cream cheese and confectioners sugar, it does not solidify like the video shows.  Dennis tested it before he topped it with the ganache, and it’s a good thing he did.  There was no way the cake would hold its shape after being sliced.  Dennis solved the problem by putting it in the freezer and treating it like an ice cream cake.

Next time Dennis is just going use another no-bake cheese cake recipe.  Normally, I wouldn’t recommend a recipe with so many problems, but the concept was solid and the presentation was impressive.” – Vincent Reinhart
