Comic Con Revolution Ontario!

Comic Con Revolution Ontario!

I’m still getting use to calling CCR, CCRO, but that’s what co-founder Drew Seldin calls it.  We had a lot of fun, but we did get there late on Saturday for various reasons.  But as always, even before you get into the Convention Center, you are greeted by the Star Cars https://www.starcarcentral.com/

I love the attention to detail.

There are two panels I do regret missing.  The first was seeing John Barrowman, Captain Jack Harkness of Doctor Who.  He was a last-minute addition and first panel on Saturday.

This con has a great system for getting into popular panels.  You can get in line – no earlier than 9:45 am that day, their rules – get a wrist band, then go off and enjoy the rest of the con.  You don’t have to stand in line for hours, being there since the break of dawn or missing other panels.  Minutes before your panel, you just show up with your wrist band and go right in.

The other panel I regret missing was the, “Josie and the Pussycats” panel.

Tara Reed and Rachel Lee Cook were there.  I guess Rosario Dawson was off being a Jedi in another galaxy that weekend.  I love that movie.  It was fun, light-hearted, had great music and made a point about corporate control and marketing.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU5bOAyDbHc

But that afternoon we did see the panel I really wanted to see, the voice cast reunion of “Teen Titans” and “Teen Titan Go.”

Both shows were on Cartoon Network.  Back in the day, “Teen Titans” was must-see TV at our house, blending action, drama and humor.  It was also the first American-made cartoon to us an anime style, including chibies – characters drawn like babies when they are scared or upset.  They ended the series with a made-for-TV movie (typical of Cartoon Network), “Trouble in Toyko”.

“Teen Titans Go” was a totally comedic version, bringing back the original character and original voice cast.  I remember it being promoted as what the Teen Titans do when they are not fighting crime.  During its run, it had a theatrical release movie, “Teen Titans go to the Movies” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9WhJyyTtqo The most meta thing about that movie was that it had an appearance by Stan Lee.  If you know your comic books, you know how wrong that is.

They also had and made-for-TV movie, “Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans Go’.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyFrPVIGvBw

Okay, so enough fanboying out.

Before that panel, we checked out the dealer’s room and got to hang out with our friends – with our PRESS BADGES!!!

Jessica was there. We stayed at her place during the weekend. Dave Mason of the U.S.S. Angeles and  Mad Woman With a Box was also at the convention.

And so was SciFi Station manager, Gene Turnbow.

There were food trucks.

But, unfortunately, not the habanero pizza food truck that has become one of my two favorites – the other being Baby’s Bad Ass Burgers, but the Hawaiian Ice was awesome.

But since Spirit of Japan, Japanese food has been following me.

This was actually a great deal for con food.  $20.00 for a serving of grilled chicken and dumplings.  And we got to keep the steaming bowl and got coupons.  Although I’m not sure why we got a coupon for mini-tacos.

Sunday was just as much fun, but as you can see, a lot less crowed for some reason.  And we going to see the Phineus and Ferb panel with the two star voice actors, David Errigo Jr. and Vincent Martella.

We are so going back next year.

CONFESSION TIME:  I lost my cherry at a Sonic.

As we always do, we stopped at a Sonic in San Deimas on the way up to Ontario.  For years, we would see Sonic commercials on cable, but there was never one near us.  Then we discovered one in San Dimas, which is on the way to Ontario.  It’s also just a couple of blocks away from The Old Spaghetti Factory.  Kris had a smash burger.  I had a couple of bites and it was really good.

I had a hot fudge shake.  There was a cherry on top of the whipped cream in my shake.  So, before it went too down deep into the cup, I decided to scoop it out with the straw.  But as I got it to the top, it fell off.  It flew down between the passenger seat and the center console.  I couldn’t even see it.  So, there it sits, to this day, in the abyss of the car floor, passenger side, probably with some coins and ketchup packets.

And that’s how I lost my cherry.
