HAPPY HALLOWEEN! (and foodie adventure)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! (and foodie adventure)

Back on October 11th, we headed out to Irv’s Burgers.  I started seeing ads for Irv’s a couple of months ago on Facebook.  But it’s when I saw that they have been around since 1946, I decided I had to check them out.  How could they have been around so long and I never knew about them?

There are three in the Los Angeles area; one in Malibu, North Hollywood and in the Fairfax District.  They are all about half an hour from where I live, so we went to the one in Malibu.  Oh, and there is a new one that just opened up in Las Vagas – a bit farther away.

I love a pastrami burger.  I haven’t had one since I used to visit a friend in Orange County.  Unfortunately, when we got there, they were out of pastrami.  Kris wanted a bacon western burger, but they were out of bacon, too.  So, I just got the regular burger and Kris left to get a pizza next door.  Chili cheese fries go good with a burger, but… they were out of cheese.  And while I was there, I had to try one of their shakes which I keep hearing are really good.  Oh, but their shake machine was broken.

I guess you can’t do much about a broken shake machine.  But why were they out of pastrami, bacon and cheese?  We were there at 5:30 pm and they are open until 9:00 pm.

This was the burger and fries I got.  It was good, but not worth the 40-minute drive it took to get there.  I could have gotten better from the In-And-Out five minutes from my house.  So, I guess you could call this a foodie misadventure.

I’d be willing to give them another shot in the future, maybe even the one in Vegas.

This is the burger I should have had, the Double Angus Burger at Carl’s Junior. (We got it a couple of days later, and yes, it was practically within walking distance of the house.)
