The Laptop with Two Brains

The Laptop with Two Brains

Computerismo Francisco Deep Thought Fanko is not completely dead.  He’s getting better.

It’s been a long road to recovery for my computer, Deep Thought.  About a month ago the hard drive died, putting him in a state of brain death.  A major part of the problem was that the operating system died. When My IT Department (Kris) pulled the secondary hard drive to get to the date, we discovered that the sectors blew, and without the sectors, the data could not be retrieved.  After several unsuccessful attempts, we realized we needed help.

A friend of ours from SciFi Radio generously spent a day trying to retrieve the data.  But again, could not get the hard drive to boot up.

Kris then called a networking connection of hers, The PC Doctor.  He suggested a weird piece of new tech we had never heard of – a docking station, that would connect and power the hard drive.  It’s a small box with a slot on top and you insert the hard drive into it.  We call it a toaster.  Well, Kris toasted the hard drive and it worked.  She was able to retrieve my data, transfer it to her computer, then export it to an external hard drive.

So, now it is attached to her laptop like an external brain, along with its own hard drive.  Now I can get back to work on novelizing my second steampunk script.  I just have to get use to a smaller screen and a very touchy touch pad.
