All Chefs to the Kitchen
Our church supports various missionaries across the world. Once a year, we have a missionary conference where many of them come to Burbank, CA, and tell us what they have been doing and the people they have reached. And we in the kitchen ministry make them lunch.
I love to cook, so this is where I can joyfully serve my church. We met in the kitchen – our restaurant grade kitchen – at 8:30 in the morning. I was put to work chopping up two large trays of carrots.
Other veggies were chopped for a vegetable medley that would top the pasta entre.
Now this may look like a vegan’s paradise, but we’re carnivores.
Grilled chicken was also prepared.
After I was done with the veggies, I was sent to Costco to get four sheet cakes. Aren’t they a lovely sight.
One of my favorite parts of doing a lunch is when it’s time to serve the food. We form an assembly line. The first person puts the pasta on the plate – and we had a lot of pasta.
I put the veggies, now in cheese sauce, on the pasta, next comes the grilled chicken, the chicken sauce, salad and cornbread – sheets of cornbread.
It’s a challenge to keep up with the crowd in line for their plate. We served about 400 plates today.
I would have loved to get a picture of the assemble line, but, well, I was in the assemble line. The kitchen staff has great fellowship with each other and we all serve there because we love it. Next, I’m looking forward to the March Men’s Breakfast and them the Seder for Passover.

Went to a KFC recently, thought this sign was brilliant.
And this gives you something to think about. Oh, yeah!
Anybody remember the sort-lived ad campaign when frying got a bad rep and they were trying to convince us that KFC meant Kitchen Fresh Chicken?
Today’s KFC, we’re hoping you forget the “F” means “Fried”.
We didn’t.
