Happy 250th!
My fourth of July celebration started the day before. On July 3rd, I went down to the American Red Cross in Woodland Hill, CA to give my third donation of the year. They often have special promos and this month it was in association with Looney Toons, as you seen in the banner on the featured picture.
We all grew up with Looney Toons. My dad and I would watch the Road Runner and Coyote on Saturday mornings and Kristine would catch her 60-year-old dad laughing at their antics on Saturday mornings in Northern California as well. Later generations saw them in reruns, then on Cartoon Network and Boomerang and now on streaming channels like METV Toons. This was a great tie-in and this one has become our favorite American Red Cross T-shirt.
The Fourth of July started with an 805 (area code for Ventura County) Patriot’s PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) Flag Run. We’ve done a number of these over the years. We gather at Pepperdine College with other cars and trucks waving the American flag.
Then we head down Pacific Coast Highway to Point Magu. People on the side of the road wave at us as we go by. And the Ventura County Fire Department had a fire truck out from that blasted their siren at us as we drove by.
Our gatherings at Point Magu have grown over the years. Recently, we have been having a crane truck that flies a giant American flag.

There are always a number of vendors. This leather work one was new and Kris surprised me with a new wallet.
There was also a jerky vendor, ‘cause what’s more American than jerky? Never seen this one before.
And you can see all the various cars and trucks that were in the run.

This time someone also brought a portable stage.
We started with a prayer, then the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. There was more programming, but Kris and I headed out to get together with some friends in Simi Valley for a small party. We had a potluck, for which we brought potato salad and Amish Macaroni Salad. And in the evening, we watched fireworks from the park next door.
It was a fun day with patriots and friends.

“To the aforementioned pot luck, Dennis brought another culinary experiment, Amish Cold Macaroni Salad with Apple Cider Vinegar. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0HYmsMo5knFfMbesciTfEgYF71NYbHLvfLgzRXiejWGcXw8HHyhfEULTyLuKnKHG9l&id=61583808377611
Simple to make, this was another winner. Much better than the store-bought mac salads. Sorry, Dennis didn’t take any pictures of his own, but trust me, it was a crowd pleaser. – Vincent Reinhart.
