L. A. Times Festival of Books

L. A. Times Festival of Books

On April 16th, Kris and I attended the annual Writers and Illustrators of the Future awards dinner.  Then on April 17th, I went to USC to set up the GLAWS booth at the L.A Times Festival of Books.  This year, one thing came right on top of the other.

(Actually, I was stuck in traffic for two hours, and by the time I got there, the booth was already set up.)

We had several GLAWS members selling thier books at our booth, including our president, Neil Citrin,       and Chrone Oxide.

I was amazed at some of the speakers they had this year.  On Saturday they had Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time), David Duchovny (The X-Files) and Tom Selleck (Magnum PI).  I would have liked to have seen them, but I was at our booth.

Then on Sunday they had Debbi Gibson, Lionel Richie and Cansandra Peterson (Elvira).  I would have especially liked to have seen Cansandra Peterson because she has a new cook book out, but I was at our booth.

They had a myriad of food trucks there, but not my favorite, Baby’s Bad Ass Burgers.  I guess I will have to go hunt them down.

I did make it to my favorite Japanese Bookstore, Kinokuniya Bookstore.  They have a large book store in Little Tokyo in Downtown L.A.  They have everything from plushies to stationary to DVD, manga and CDs.  For them I made it out of our booth.

The weather was nice this year.  Not too hot and no rain like last year.

We’ll be back next year.  Come see me.  I’ll be at our booth.

Two weeks ago, we went to California State University Northridge to see the dragonflies in their pond.  They spend the whole day buzzing around.  But once in a while, one or two will sit still for a picture.  Here are a couple.

This was the only one I could get of a damselfly.  They are cousins to the dragonfly, but smaller and more delicate.  They also have their wings coming out of the back of their body instead of the top of their back.

And here are two different Red Skimmers that cooperated for pictures.
