The Great Escape (to Oxnard)

The Great Escape (to Oxnard)

I’ve often mentioned that sometimes my life feels like nothing but work, write, sleep, work, write, sleep.  Since the lockdown, there has been little to go out and do.  But with restrictions starting to loosen, especially in Ventura County, we decided to go out and celebrate Kris getting a new website client for her business, Civic Site Design  https://civicsitedesign.com/

We went to our favorite pizza place, Topper’s Pizza https://www.topperspizzaplace.com/  Although there are two locations closer to us, we chose the one in Oxnard.  It was the first one we ever went to, Kris was introduced to it on a home care assignment.  It’s the biggest one we know of.

I love their motto, “Eat More Pizza”.

But mostly because it was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio by the harbor.

This place is so big, it even has a second floor with a fireplace.

And the most awesome soda machines, ever!

Just look at all the varieties of Coke you can get.  They even have Raspberry Coke which is otherwise not sold in America.

Usually, we’ll get two medium pizzas.  Kris will get a Meatinator and I vary.  But this time Kris wanted a BBQ Chicken pizza and I thought I would get the Meatinator.  But then we saw they have a new pizza:  the Hot Honey featuring Creamy Garlic Sauce, Salami, Red Onion, Fresh Jalapeños, Bacon Pieces, and a Honey Drizzle.  We couldn’t pass that up, so we got three small pizzas.

The Hot Honey was good.  It was sweet, dripping honey instead of pizza grease, but not that hot.  Not even white-boy hot with the jalapenos.  But I would have it again.  For a hot pizza, I recommend the Hawaiian Heat.

It was the break I needed from my routine, and we got lots of leftovers.  Next time, I think we’ll have Mexican at either Tress Toros in Chatsworth or Los Dos Amigos in Thousand Oaks.
