Old Carpets Never Die

Back in 2019, the LAX Marriot remodeled and put in new carpeting.  But the long-time attendees of Gallifrey One have never forgotten the original carpet.  There are still swatches of the carpet from a backup bolt the hotel still has. They still show up in the charity auction.

For a dollar, you could have your picture taken with it.

But fandom is creative.  Fans have made sure that the memory of the carpet never dies.  Here is a costume of the carpet.

Gallifrey has always been big on the ribbon culture, and the carpet has made its appearance even there.

And the carpet has even made its way into the Art Show.  T is for Tardis had a pen wrap and a bracelet of the pattern. Both sold, but you can get the bead patterns to make them in their Etsy store here.

There is even a company, myutopiashoutout.com, that sells merchandise based on the carpet.

But then, there are always the detractors…

But for those who truly love the old carpet, fear not.  If you go down into the bowels of the Marriott, where the sun never shines and fandom never treads, you can still find remnants of the old carpet.
