Two Cool Things Happened this Weekend. Here’s Number One:

My church, Calvary Bible Church in Burbank, had its first Men’s Breakfast of the year.  It’s always a blessing to fellowship with other men, but it’s a double blessing for me.

I love to cook.  I do all the cooking at home.  It’s my hobby.  I also love Food Network and shows like “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” and “Good Eats”.  So how cool is it that when we have a Men’s Breakfast or Munch and Mingle (lunch after service) I get to play in a professional, restaurant-grade kitchen?!

I love to sleep in on Saturdays, but for this, I’ll get up at 4:00 am, make scones for my wife and be at church at 6:00 am.  We’re known for our breakfast burritos.  I’m known as the egg man.  The picture above is me scrambling over 200 eggs.  After the eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and hash browns are done, we form an assemble line to wrap the burritos.

For now, we are putting the burrito, salsa, fruit (this time a banana) in take-out containers.  Due to California restaurant restrictions, we still have to eat outside.

When we’re done with breakfast, then we head upstairs to the large meeting room for service where we sit in groups of no more than three, six feet apart.  We’re hoping that by the April Men’s Breakfast, we’ll be able to eat indoors again.

I also get to work with a professional chef.  I’ve taken several recipes home and made them for my wife and I.  I love working in the food ministry and with all the guys on the kitchen staff.  It’s where I can serve joyfully.
