My Leafy Babies!

My Leafy Babies!

Back in May of last year, I had some disappointing jalapenos.  First, we went to Topper’s Pizza (my favorite pizza place) and ordered a pizza with jalapenos on it.  The jalapenos were disappointingly not hot.  Then I made a plate of nachos at home and added jalapenos to my side.  They were not hot.  So, the next time, I added habaneros.  They were hot!

I saved the seeds and planted them.  As you can see, they have grown pretty big.

From left to right we call them Momma, Baby and Pappa.  We call this corner of our apartment the oxygen-generating plant.  We got them a sun lamp to help them grow indoors.  After repotting them last week and giving them some plant food, they began to flower.

Momma has two flowers open at the moment, with more to come.

So does Baby.

Pappa doesn’t have any flowers yet, but he likes to visit Kris at her bead table.

Kris sent me a video on how to pollinate them.  https://youtu.be/J0DR8vY6E8Y   It’s pretty easy.

Before I knew how easy it was, I thought of hiring this guy.  He seems like an expert.

In a month or two I’ll have my first crop of habaneros.  Then I’ll make habanero mango chicken chili, habanero hamburgers, habanero meatloaf…  I’m going to habanero ALL THE THINGS!

    • I had some disappointing experiences with some jalapenos on pizza and nachos. They just weren’t very hot. So the next time I put habaneros on my nachos and that was what I wanted. So I saved the seeds and planted them. And I found that great habanero mango chicken chili recipe that I mentioned.
