Loscon 48 review

Actually, we didn’t see a whole lot of the con because we were busy.  It started on Thanksgiving Day when I made cookies for the Blood Drive.  Kris was also busy helping me with quality control.

Friday, we did catch one panel we really wanted to see.  Gene Turnbow and Susan Fox – this year’s Fan Guests of Honor.  (That was Kris and I last year.)  Their personal history is a lot like ours.  They got together, then broke up, then got together again and got married.  Except Kris and I didn’t do the marrying-other-people-in-the-between-time thing.

Side note:   Gene’s ex-wife was Kris’ roommate before we got married.

Then, Kris and I had been asked to run the Ice Cream Social that evening.  That was fun.  They gave us two hours to set up, we did it in thirty-five minutes.   I started by covering the carpet around the serving tables with sticky plastic.  It’s like three-foot wide tape.

We also bought all the toppings for the ice cream.

Side note:  We got to take some of the syrups home after the con.  I have fallen in love again with chocolate milk.  Why didn’t they have dark chocolate syrup when I was a kid?

The Ice Scream Social was a huge success with practically everybody attending the con showing up.  Sorry, no pictures, we were too busy scooping out ice cream.

Saturday was our Blood Drive.  Kris and I not only ran it, but I was the first signed up to donate.

Our friend, Liz, also donated and ran the sign-up table.

Side note:  We met Liz years ago at one of our blood drives when she came in to donate.

One of the best parts of Loscon is meeting up with old friends again.  This is me with my dear friend, Jessica.  I met her about thirty-five years ago when we both worked at Toyville, a toy store in Stonewood Shopping Center.  I introduced her to Loscon and Gallifery and she’s been going ever since.

Now that the con is over, it’s back to normal life.  I still have a novel to add 8,000 words to and a script to cut by about thirty pages.

First Steampunk novel:  72,193 words.  Need to expand to about 80,000 words. ß Didn’t work on it, dead from Loscon.

First Steampunk screenplay:  Need to update with notes from the novelization.

Second Steampunk screenplay:  162 pages.

Second Steampunk novel: 0 words.

Third Steampunk screenplay:  38 pages.

For those of you who have been attending Loscon and Gallifrey One for years, the old carpet still does exist in the bowels of the hotel.
